What are Different Types of Teeth Cavities?

There are different types of teeth cavities which can be described according to the level of penetration into the tooth. Pit & Fissure caries- Pit & Fissure sealants is used in this type of caries.

How are Teeth Cavities Treated?

Caries involving enamel-GIC or Composite restorative material is used as a permanent restoration. The decay of the tooth get into the deeper layers i.e.dentin. If the infection spreads to dentin ,it causes a cavity on the tooth in which the food gets lodged, it can be treated by filling based on the area of the cavity.

What happens if the Teeth Cavity is left untreated?

If teeth cavity is left untreated, the infection will enter the pulp which leads to severe pain which can only be treated by root canal procedure and crown. If left untreated it spreads to the surrounding periodontium which leads to pus formation and can cause swelling of the surrounding tissues with radiating pain and sinus formation.

Can Tooth Decay be arrested?

In some cases according to condition and age of the patient we can go ahead with root canal procedure but tooth may have a poor prognosis but in severe cases tooth can’t be saved by root canal procedure. Then only option left is tooth extraction to prevent the further damage to the bone or it also spreads to the adjacent teeth and effects other teeth.

What happens when Teeth Cavity goes deeper and if there is pain?
